Supporting Employers

One of the aims of the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Childcare Committee is to encourage employers to facilitate their employees’ childcare needs. Since 2004, DLRCCC has been involved in collaborative actions with the 3 other Dublin CCCs in relation to the promotion of work-life balance issues amongst employers, including the organisation of the Babies and Bosses Conference 2004. This collaboration culminated in the Report ‘Supporting Employers Supporting Childcare’ which was produced in 2006.

In order to assist us gain a greater understanding of employer attitudes in relation to this issue, we commissioned a piece of research to survey the childcare support/family friendly practices of a sample of employers in the DLRCCC area, with small, medium and large size companies included in the sample. This research was undertaken by independent Consultants, Unique Perspectives, between August and October 2008.

A research questionnaire was developed and distributed to a structured sample of 1,900 businesses/employers taken from Data Base Ireland. The areas covered were all of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown. The survey was circulated and responded to by return post (288) and online survey (59). In total, 347 completed questionnaires have been received, inputted and analysed. In addition, 27 surveys have been completed by employees. This will be in the main draft report but is secondary to the main employer survey.
